Bosingwa: Decision to join Chelsea was easy
13/05/2008
Chelsea's new £16.1 million right-back Jose Bosingwa has revealed he turned down a host of Premier League clubs to sign for the Champions League finalists.
The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract after Chelsea agreed a fee with Portuguese champions Porto.
Bosingwa had attracted interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa, but the Blues won the race to sign the highly-rated international defender.
"To improve yourself you need to be playing alongside the best and the Premier League has the best players in the world so that is where I need to be," he told the club's official website.
"I had some time to think about it and I knew some clubs were interested in me and when I heard one was Chelsea, I thought 'OK'."
Congolese-born Bosingwa admitted he had been unable to speak to former Porto team-mates Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira because of the secrecy surrounding his transfer.
"Now I am sure I am going to speak to them and they are going to help me get to know Chelsea better," the full-back added.
"I promise the fans that I am going to work very hard so every weekend they are going to leave the games happy. They can be sure I am going to work very hard so the team can be very successful with me."
