Brazil striker Jo becomes Man City record signing

02/07/2008

Manchester City have completed the signing of Brazilian international striker Jo from CSKA Moscow for a club-record transfer fee.

The 21-year-old scored 44 goals in 77 games for the Russian side in his three years since signing from Corinthians, winning two Russian Super Cups and a Russian league and cup double in 2006.

Jo becomes new City manager Mark Hughes' first signing since joining the club and he said he is confident the player can make an impact on the squad in the coming season.

"He's young in years but in football terms he has a lot of experience," Hughes said.

"He's won trophies at his former clubs, he is used to playing in big games and I'm sure he's going to be a success here."

Hughes added: "He's an outstanding football player."

Jo revealed he had chosen to sign for the Eastlands outfit over Spanish giants Valencia.

And he said City represented a more attractive option for him after negotiating with both clubs.

"I decided to come to Manchester City because Manchester City were interested in me as a player and a person," he said.

"Although I had other offers to think about as well, I spoke to the manager and he showed great interest in me.

"Manchester City are going forward at the moment and we can go places."

Meanwhile, the club have also confirmed that Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaaksson has left the club to sign a four-year deal with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18667265-ADNFCR
