Capello hails positive attitude
20/11/2008
England manager Fabio Capello heaped praise on his players following their impressive performance in beating Germany 2-1 in Berlin.
The Italian oversaw a team featuring several fringe players, in the absence of some of the more established names, dominate for large periods against a side ranked second in the world.
And afterwards Capello said the team's confidence, which has showed marked improvement since he took over from Steve McClaren at the turn of the year, has been a major factor in the improvement.
"The result is important but the performance was very good because we played here against Germany, a good team, played very well and had a lot of chances to score," he said.
"The attitude of the team was good - they played with confidence and personality."
Capello was also asked if he now faces a selection headache after seeing younger players such as Gabriel Agbonlahor and Glen Johnson put in solid performances at their respective positions.
"I'm very happy for these problems," he continued.
"I'm very happy because I saw some players play very well and I needed to know them better."
"I said yesterday I have confidence in my team and we had a good opportunity to know some players better. All the players did well and the spirit we have in every game is very important."
