Carvalho slams Chelsea for 'cruel' treatment of Grant
15/06/2008
Ricardo Carvalho has cast fresh doubt on his Chelsea future after blasting the club's treatment of Avram Grant.
Grant was sacked as manager three days after the Blues' defeat in the Champions League final to Manchester United, despite being given a four-year contract in December.
Carvalho, 30, has been linked with a move to Inter Milan to reunite with ex-Blues boss Jose Mourinho.
The Portugal defender said the west London club had been "cruel" in sacking Grant after just eight months in charge.
"Avram did a great job, but they still decided to sack him. Yet after Jose Mourinho left, he picked up the team and got good results," Carvalho told the Sunday Times.
"It was very cruel. He did a great job and he could have carried on, but they decided to let him go. It was very ruthless.
"The new manager will be my third in a year, and in football you need stability if you want to be successful."
Chelsea fans are hoping the appointment of Portugal boss Luis Felipe Scolari as their new manager will convince Carvalho to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Carvalho insists he has not spoken to Mourinho about a move to the San Siro.
"There has been a lot of talk about the new manager and players coming and going," Carvalho added.
"I know there are stories about me, too, and in football you never know what can happen.
"But I have a contract at Chelsea and I have not spoken to Jose Mourinho about Inter Milan, or to my agent (Jorge Mendes) about a move."
Carvalho is expected to play tonight in Portugal's final Group A game against Switzerland at Euro 2008.
