Celtic fined over fan behaviour
14/11/2008
Celtic have been fined 50,000 (£42,800) after their supporters were found guilty of improper conduct by Uefa in last week's match against Manchester United.
The Scottish title holders sealed a 1-1 draw with the reigning European champions at Parkhead in their Champions League group E match on Wednesday November 5th.
But the game was marred by some organisational difficulties that led to a late kick-off of the game, as well as a pitch invasion by one supporter who has since pleaded guilty to a breach of the peace and being drunk in a sports ground.
The fine is substantially more than the amount handed out after a fan invaded the pitch following Celtic's last-minute winner against AC Milan in the group stages of the same competition last season.
A 20,000 (£17,000) fine was suspended by Uefa after that incident and was triggered because the club failed to control their supporters for a second time in two years.
Celtic have three days in which to lodge an appeal, although a spokesman for the club said there is no plan to petition against the decision.
