Celtic 'scared' by United trip, says Strachan
21/10/2008
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has admitted tonight's Champions League trip to Manchester United is a 'scary thought'.
The Bhoys have just one point from their opening two matches of the group stage after a home draw with Aalborg and defeat away to Villarreal.
And now with their most significant test yet coming up, against the defending champions, Strachan has conceded that it would be an achievement to take anything from the match at Old Trafford.
"They're the champions of Europe and the champions of England - and that tells you they're the best team in Europe," said the Celtic boss, who is a former United player.
"The more we think about it, the scarier it gets."
The teams last met in European competition in 2006, when Celtic won 1-0 at Parkhead thanks to a Shunsuke Nakamura free-kick.
And Strachan said he hopes the experience some of his players have from that match will help them this time around.
"They have some of the best players in the world and my players know what's coming, but they're looking forward to the challenge," he continued.
"A lot of them were here two years ago, so they know what to expect and they enjoyed it.
"But you can only enjoy the experience if you've performed well."
