Celtic striker McDonald signs new deal
17/06/2008
Celtic's top goalscorer Scott McDonald has signed a new five-year contract with the club to keep him at Parkhead until at least the summer of 2013.
The Australian, who has been at the club for just one season, has made an immediate impact scoring 31 goals for the Bhoys since his arrival from Motherwell.
McDonald's goals were a key part of Celtic's Scottish Premier League title-winning campaign in 2007/08.
And Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell described the agreement with the 24-year-old as "great news".
"It is well known that Scott loves playing for Celtic and he has a great affection for the club," Lawwell said.
"He is also someone who performed brilliantly for Celtic last season.
"Our priority is always to keep our best and most committed players and the board is delighted to support [manager] Gordon [Strachan] in his plans for the future by securing Scott on this long-term agreement.
"We will continue to do all we can to ensure that Celtic stays at the top of Scottish football."
