Celtic winger McGeady scoops Scottish awards double
21/04/2008
Celtic's Aiden McGeady has become only the second player ever to win both the Scottish PFA player and young player of the year awards in the same year.
The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international joins former Celtic team-mate Shaun Maloney, who completed the feat in 2006, in winning both awards.
McGeady has been a key part of the Bhoys team this season, playing 37 matches for the club in domestic competition and scoring seven goals.
He also appeared eight times in Celtic's run to the last-16 of the Champions League, scoring the winner in the vital 1-0 home win over Benfica in the group stage of the competition.
Billy Reid was awarded the managers prize for leading unfancied Hamilton Academicals to the First Division title and into the Scottish Premier League for next season.
There was also a special award for Phil O'Donnell - the Motherwell captain who tragically collapsed towards the end of a league match against Dundee United in December.
The 35-year-old later died of heart failure and was posthumously given a Scottish Football Association special merit award at the ceremony last night.
