Champions United comfortably beat Blackburn

04/10/2008

Manchester United finally looked like champions this evening as they outclassed Blackburn Rovers to win 2-0 at Ewood Park this evening.

United have had a difficult start to the Premier League season and trips to Ewood Park have proved tough games for Sir Alex Ferguson's men in the past. But it was a different story today as United were in dominant mood, with Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney scoring the goals.

Rooney made a surprising recovery from the ankle injury he suffered in midweek in the Champions League and he lined-up alongside Dimitar Berbatov and Cristiano Ronaldo. And with those three players on form, Blackburn were completely over-run this evening.

Berbatov was instrumental early on as first he slipped through a precise ball for Darren Fletcher, who shot wide from a good position. The Bulgarian striker than crossed for Ryan Giggs, but he saw his shot brilliantly saved by Jason Brown in the Blackburn goal.

Though United had been the better side, Blackburn were unlucky to concede the first goal. Blackburn keeper Brown was going to collect the ball from a Rooney cross, but he collided into Nemanja Vidic and this let Wes Brown to head into an empty net. Blackburn felt Vidic had committed a foul, but referee Steve Bennett allowed the goal to stand.

Rooney should have doubled the lead for United but he saw his effort on goal go wide of the far post after being put through by another superb Berbatov pass.

Blackburn were non-existent as an attacking threat and it was only a matter of time before United scored again. This time the goal was created by Ronaldo who went on a explosive run on the right-wing and skipped past Martin Olsson before crossing the ball for Rooney, who curled the ball past Brown.

The game was all but over after United scored again, but they continued to surge forward and Carlos Tevez saw a shot come of the upright. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18811334-ADNFCR
