Chelsea boss Grant 'disappointed' by Stamford Bridge boos
15/04/2008
Chelsea boss Avram Grant admitted it was "disappointing" to hear boos around Stamford Bridge after a poor first-half performance against Wigan Athletic.
The Blues could only draw 1-1 with the Latics last night - a result that puts Manchester United within touching distance of a second successive Premier League crown.
Sir Alex Ferguson now holds a five-point advantage over his rival in the title race with just four games to go - one of which is a first-versus-second showdown at Stamford Bridge next week.
And Grant has called on the fans to get behind the team in future fixtures after they heckled the team as they left the field at half-time against Wigan, with the score locked at 0-0.
"It is very disappointing. The fans need to respect the football we played even though we didn't win the game," Grant said after the match.
"We have played good football in many games and create a lot of chances, but we don't use them so much."
Chelsea were missing top scorer Frank Lampard against Wigan as he withdrew shortly before kick-off due to an unknown personal issue.
And with leading striker Didier Drogba also currently out of action due to a niggling ankle injury, the Blues struggled to show a cutting edge against one of the Premier League's least capable teams on the road.
