Chelsea target Mancini shown Inter exit
29/05/2008
Roberto Mancini has been sacked by Inter Milan, increasing the Italian's odds of becoming the next Chelsea manager.
Inter confirmed Mancini's dismissal on Thursday, just weeks after he guided them to a third consecutive scudetto in Serie A.
The former Italy international, who speaks English following a loan spell at Leicester late in his playing career, was given his marching orders over comments made when his team lost to Liverpool in the Champions League.
Mancini said he would leave the San Siro at the end of the season following the Reds loss, but reversed his decision 24 hours later.
"FC Internazionale have informed Roberto Mancini that he has been sacked as coach," an Inter statement said.
"In particular because of the comments made by the coach at the end of the Inter-Liverpool match."
Mancini has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge after the Blues sacked Avram Grant last weekend.
As well as becoming one of the Nerazzuri's most successful ever managers the 43-year-old has also enjoyed fruitful spells at Lazio and Fiorentina.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea icon Jose Mourinho is the clear favourite to succeed Mancini in Milan.
