Chelsea to investigate post-match United player scuffles
27/04/2008
Chelsea have stated that they will examine CCV footage as part of an investigation into the scuffles that broke out between Stamford Bridge staff and Manchester United's players after the two sides' top-of-the-table clash.
The incident happened when Patrice Evra, Ji-Sung Parkm Gary Neville and Paul Scholes were asked to move by the ground staff when they were warming-down on the pitch.
This sparked a row between the two groups, which soon descended into violent scuffles, which were caught on camera by the media.
In a statement, the London side, said that it would be examining footage of the incident before deciding on any action.
At the same time, United defender Rio Ferdinand has apologised for accidentally kicking a female steward after his side lost 2-1 in a fiery encounter.
According to the England player, he wanted to kick out at a brick wall to vent his frustration but also made contact with the lady.
"Unfortunately, a lady was stood by and I accidentally brushed her with my foot. I apologised profusely and went back to make sure she was OK," he said.
"I have arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be sent to her."
Sir Alex Ferguson also said that he hopes to have Serbian centre-back Nemanja Vidic back for Tuesday's game against Barcelona, after he was forced to come off against Chelsea with a facial injury.
