City owner to review Eriksson's position this summer
16/04/2008
Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra has said he will review the position of first-team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson at the end of the season.
Media reports this week have suggested that the former Thai prime minister, who bought the club last year, is disappointed with the club's recent form and is considering making changes.
However, several pundits and commentators have spoken out in support of the former England boss, including 'super agent' Pini Zahavi who claims Eriksson has done a "good job with some average players".
After a superb start to the season and some excellent results, including February's impressive 2-1 win over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Eastlands outfit have dropped off the pace in the race for European qualification.
And when asked by reporters in Dubai whether Eriksson's position is in doubt, Shinawatra replied: "There are no plans to make changes at the moment. We will evaluate that at the end of the season."
The businessman also said he is "not happy with the performance of the club in the second half of the season" and he is prepared to "assess the club and the people involved".
"We'll probably have to sell some players and buy some new ones," he added, saying new defenders and midfielders are top of the club's wish list.
Earlier this month, Eriksson and City were linked with wantaway Barcelona forward Ronaldinho, whose days at the Nou Camp appear to be numbered since he has fallen out of favour with the club's management.
However, with teams such as Inter and AC Milan known to have joined the race to sign the former world player of the year, the chances of seeing the Brazilian international at Eastlands next season appear to be limited.
