Cyclists to lead Olympic and Paralympic heroes parade
15/10/2008
Team GB's cyclists will lead the way during tomorrow's parade through London to celebrate the country's success in this summer's Olympics and Paralympics.
Women's road race champion Nicole Cooke, who won Britain's first gold medal of the games will be joined by triple Olympic champion Chris Hoy and fellow track star Victoria Pendleton, as well as Paralympic champions Sarah and Barney Storey, Rachel Morris and Simon Richardson.
The parade is due to start at 11:00BST, leaving Mansion House in the City of London before heading up Queen Victoria Street, going through Fleet Street and finishing in Trafalgar Square.
On float two there will be no fewer than 22 Olympic rowers as well as Paralympic rowing champions Tom Aggar and Helene Raynsford, who became the first athletes to win Paralympic rowing golds, when the sport made its debut at the Games this summer.
Athletics dominates the next three floats with athletes such as Olympic 400m Champion Christine Ohuruogu and two-time Paralympic gold medallist David Weir there to greet the crowds.
Despite finishing outside the medals 14-year-old Tom Daley will be part of the celebrations on the penultimate float.
The final float to enter Trafalgar Square, at 13:30BST, will be carrying double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and her swimming team-mates.
Team GB enjoyed their best result at the Olympics for 100 years in Beijing, winning 19 golds, 13 silvers and 15 bronze.
Paralympics GB finished second in the medals table, winning 102 medals in total including 42 golds.
