Day of comebacks for Britain's sailors

12/08/2008

Britain's Paul Goodison finished the opening day of the Laser class sailing in sixth position.

The 30-year-old had a bad start to the day, finishing in 15th place in the opening race. He bounced back, however, to finish second in the second race, which placed him in sixth position overall.

Olympic debutant Penny Clark finishing second in the first race of the day in the Laser Radial. The second race proved tougher for Clark, who finished 20th to see her into eighth place overall.

In the 470 class Team GB's women’s pairing of Christina Bassadone and Saskia Clark were left in 15th place at one point after a protest by the Slovenian crew, but fought back in races three and four to move back up the leaderboard to eighth place overall.

2004 silver medallists Nick Rogers and Joe Glanfield finishing 19th in their opening race, but they too firmly put that behind them with 1st and 4th place finishes in Tuesday’s two races for the men’s double-handed class lifting them to fifth overall.
