Derby assistant Ternent 'to take over at Huddersfield'

24/04/2008

Derby County assistant manager Stan Ternent is poised to leave the club today ahead of his unveiling as the new manager of Huddersfield Town.

The 61-year-old, who arrived at Pride Park five months ago to assist new boss Paul Jewell, is expected to fill the vacant managerial post at the Galpharm Stadium tomorrow.

Ternent will succeed Andy Ritchie, who left the midtable League One side earlier this month by mutual consent following a largely underwhelming campaign.

Huddersfield were expected to be fighting for promotion to the Championship this season but instead find themselves in 12th place.

And the club are apparently looking to Ternent, who has managerial experience in the Football League with Burnley and Bury among others, to guide them to promotion in 2009.

Derby chairman of football Adam Pearson confirmed the appointment and thanked Ternent for his hard work since joining the club last year.

"We have given him permission to join Huddersfield Town as their manager. We have not sought any compensation from Huddersfield," said Pearson.

Derby also confirmed that a new assistant manager to join Jewell's backroom staff has already been lined up and that person, who Pearson says "has a proven pedigree, a top-class record and is someone well known to Paul", will start tomorrow.

"I am very excited about the future of the coaching staff moving forward, as is Paul Jewell," he added.

Ternent's last senior managerial role was with Gillingham in 2004/05, but he quit Priestfield after just one season when the club were relegated from the Championship.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18565513-ADNFCR
