Derby striker Miller completes Rangers switch
13/06/2008
Scotland striker Kenny Miller has re-joined Rangers from Derby County for a fee of £2 million.
The 28-year-old, who scored six goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for the Pride Park outfit, has gone back to Ibrox to rejoin former national team manager Walter Smith.
Miller's switch back to Glasgow is likely to be met with derision among many Gers fans, who have still not forgiven the Scotland forward for joining bitter rivals Celtic in 2006 before he moved to Derby.
But Derby manager Paul Jewell, who is looking to rebuild his squad in preparation for an attempt at regaining the Premier League place they lost last season, believes the move is a positive step for everyone involved.
"I'd like to thank Kenny for the work he has put in for Derby County, he was a good professional to work with," Jewell said.
"However, I believe this deal is good for all parties involved and is a very good piece of business for Derby County.
"My focus now is centred on rebuilding the squad for next season and changing the culture at this club."
On his club's progress in the transfer market, which Jewell says he is "really happy with", the former Wigan Athletic boss believes he is "ahead of schedule and still pressing".
"I've said all along I'd like to have the majority of my squad assembled for when the players return for preseason training on June 27th and at the moment that is looking likely," he added.
The Rams have already made seven signings this summer - with Ruben Zadkovich, Paul Connolly, Nathan Ellington, Jordan Stewart, Paul Green, Kris Commons and Steve Davies all committing to the club for next season.
