Everton and Rangers head queue for Czech prodigy
29/06/2008
Everton and Rangers will battle it out to sign Czech prodigy Marek Suchy, according to reports.
The centre-back, who plays for Slavia Prague, says his agent was contacted by Rangers last week.
He now claims Everton have made contact and talks have begun about a move to Goodison Park.
The Toffees sent scouts to Czech Republic over the winter to see Suchy in action.
Suchy, 20, said he is keen to play in a foreign league after two seasons with the Czech champions.
"Yes, it is true that these two clubs are interested in me. My agent Pavel Vandas told me," Suchy told Czech website idnes.cz.
"I cannot say [which club I would prefer to move to]. A lot depends on the first feeling from negotiations or on how much the coaches will want me in their team," he commented.
"At the moment there have been some opening negotiations going on."
Suchy was a key member of the Czech Republic side that lost to Argentina in the final of last year's Fifa Under-20 World Cup. The previous year he was named the most promising player at the annual Golden Ball awards.
He can also play in midfield and is valued at around £2.5 million.
