Evra and Chelsea groundsman deny charges

06/08/2008

Manchester United's Patrice Evra and Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell have both denied charges of improper conduct following their fracas in April.

The pair clashed on the pitch at Stamford Bridge when Evra and some of his United team-mates were warming down after a league match between the two teams on April 26th, which finished 2-1 to the home side.

As a result, the Football Association charged Evra with improper conduct, while Bethell has been accused of "using abusive language aggravated by reference to nationality/race".

"The charges are the result of a thorough investigation conducted by the FA over the past three months," an announcement from the governing body stated last month.

"In bringing the charges, the FA used video evidence, CCTV footage and various witness statements from individuals present."

Both men have requested personal hearings, which will be scheduled "in due course", the FA added.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18692128-ADNFCR
