Ferdinand urges Ronaldo to stay at United
06/06/2008
Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand has urged winger Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at the club next season rather than move to Real Madrid.
Ferdinand has claimed the current United side, who won a Premier League and Champions League double in the 2007/08 season, can still improve.
But he believes this will only happen if the majority of the team remain together.
"This team can get better, but we need it to stay together," Ferdinand told the Sun newspaper.
"We have worked hard to get to the position we are in and want to build on the success we have had.
"That means keeping all the players at the club."
Ronaldo has been linked with a switch to the Primera Liga champions for several months after revealing he has always harboured ambitions of playing in the famous white shirt.
Real president Ramon Calderon and coach Bernd Schuster have both commented on their desire to lure the Portuguese to the Bernabeu, although United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has repeatedly expressed his desire to keep the player.
