Ferguson has no intention of selling Hargreaves
25/10/2008
Alex Ferguson has scoffed at suggestions that midfielder Owen Hargreaves could be put up for sale in the January transfer window.
Hargreaves has missed much of the start of United's season with a persistent knee injury, prompting speculation that the club might decide to cut their losses and try and recoup some money on the player.
However, Ferguson insists the England international remains an important member of his squad and will not be trying to sell him.
"For Owen's sake it is important we say he is not for sale," said Ferguson.
"Selling the boy is not even under consideration."
The United boss says he can see how the story gathered momentum due to Hargreaves' run of injuries but the Scot feels he will be able to help the team again once he is fit as he did at the end of last season.
Ferguson added: "It is a good story. The fact he has been injured a few times since he has been at the club.
"But United people remember what a contribution he made to us winning the European Cup. He was available in the second half of the season and played some important games for us."
Hargreaves has played just three times for United this season due to tendinitis in his knee. The 27-year-old is back in light training and will visit his specialist next week for another assessment of his rehab progress.
Ferguson is unsure exactly when Hargreaves will be able to take the field again but is confident he will make a full recovery.
