France given Henry and Ribery injury scares
06/06/2008
France coach Raymond Domenech has been given a double injury scare on the eve of Euro 2008 after Thierry Henry and Franck Ribery pulled out of training yesterday.
The two star men of Les Bleus were forced to cut short their practice session to receive treatment for separate injuries, just three days before their opening match of group C against Romania in Zurich.
Henry is still feeling the effects of a sciatic nerve problem that troubled him throughout his final season at Arsenal, and also limited his playing time during his first year with Barcelona.
And Bayern Munich winger Ribery, who has been earmarked as France's most important player at the tournament, has sustained an ankle injury and is now doubtful for Monday's game.
The news is a further setback for the fitness of the French squad, after Mathieu Flamini was called up as emergency cover when influential midfielder Patrick Vieira suffered a thigh injury.
The Inter Milan man looks set to be back to full fitness in around a week's time, but he is reportedly out of the opening game.
