Fulham finalise free transfer of Gera from Baggies

11/06/2008

Fulham have completed the signing of West Bromwich Albion midfielder Zoltan Gera on a three-year contract with the option of a further year.

The Hungarian international moves to Craven Cottage on a free transfer, having turned down a new contract at the Hawthorns.

Gera, 29, joined the Baggies from Ferencvaros in July 2004 and has scored 25 goals in 155 appearances for the Black Country outfit.

However, the versatile 53-cap veteran has claimed he needs a new challenge for next season after playing a major part in West Brom's Championship-winning campaign in 2007/08.

"I am extremely happy to have completed my transfer to Fulham this morning and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the rest of the squad for pre-season in three weeks' time," he told the Fulham website.

"Having spoken to [Cottagers manager] Roy Hodgson, I am impressed with the club's aims for the forthcoming Premier League campaign and I'm confident that I will be able to play a worthy part in what will be a new challenge for me."

In confirming the deal for Gera, Hodgson said the player would "add to the quality already in the squad".

"He is a versatile player whose skill and athleticism contribute to him being an excellent all-round attacking midfielder who can also play as a striker, which he has proven successfully at club and international level," Hodgson explained.

"Zoltan had a lot of options in terms of his future and we are delighted that he chose to come to join us at Fulham."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18633947-ADNFCR
