Fulham sign Etuhu from Sunderland
30/08/2008
Fulham have completed the transfer of Dickson Etuhu from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.
The Nigerian international has signed a three-year deal with the London club having completed one season in the Premier League with the Black Cats.
Etuhu was an integral part of the Sunderland midfield last season, making 21 appearances in all competitions.
However, with the Black Cats having reinforced that area of their squad with the likes of Teemu Tainio and Steed Malbranque, Roy Keane was happy to led the 26-year-old leave.
Fulham recently let Steve Davis join Rangers and Etuhu is an able replacement.
The Cottagers' manager Roy Hodgson says Etuhu will bring an element to his midfield that he felt had been lacking.
He said: "It's no secret that we've been in the market for a defensive midfield player over the summer and I'm pleased to welcome Dickson Etuhu to Fulham football club.
"Dickson fits the profile we were seeking. His athleticism, strength and brand of football will offer a new dimension to the roster of players we have available in midfield."
Etuhu began his career in England with Preston North End where he spent four seasons before moving to Norwich City.
The Nigerian hopes his transfer to Fulham will allow him to play the best football of his career.
He said: "This is a crucial stage in my career and I'm delighted to have committed myself to Fulham for what I hope will be my prime years as a professional footballer."
Fulham's match against Manchester United has been postponed this weekend so Etuhu's first chance to play for the Cottagers will be against Bolton next Saturday.
