Gascoigne sectioned under Mental Health Act
02/06/2008
Former England football star Paul Gascoigne has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Gascoigne, 41, was taken to hospital in Sunday following reports he was acting strangely in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire police confirmed.
BBC News quotes a police spokesman as claiming the former Spurs player approached a member of the public and appeared to be unwell and in an agitated state.
Gascoigne was previously placed under the Mental Health Act in February following a disruption in a Tyneside hotel.
On Sunday, the former England star's sister called for fans not to buy Gascoigne any alcohol.
"You are killing him with your kindness," Anna Gascoigne said.
Gascoigne has suffered with drug and alcohol addictions in the past and has made numerous visits to rehab.
