Gera set to join Cottagers after rejecting Baggies' offer
09/06/2008
Zoltan Gera is poised to join Fulham after rejecting a new contract at West Bromwich Albion.
The Hungary midfielder helped the Baggies clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League last season.
Gera, whose current deal expires in the summer, scored 11 goals in the Championship.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray said the Midlands club had done everything to try and keep the 29-year-old at the Hawthorns.
"We could do no more. Everyone at Albion appreciated his professionalism on and off the field," Mowbray said.
"We would like to wish Zoltan all the best in his future career.
"But football moves on and, just as we did last summer, we are looking forward to the challenge of finding new faces to strengthen the squad for the season ahead."
Gera has scored 25 times in 154 appearances for the Baggies, after joining from Hungary side Ferencvaros in July 2004.
The midfielder, who played in West Brom's last spell in the top-flight in the 2005/06 season, has also been linked with a move to Everton.
Last month, Gera's agent Sam Stapleton said the winger wanted West Brom to prove they could stay in the top flight.
"It's not down to money at all, it's down to ambition and longevity of playing in the Premier League," Stapleton told the BBC.
