Germany star puts Premier League clubs on red alert
22/06/2008
Germany star Bastian Schweinsteiger has revealed he could move to the Premier League this year.
The Bayern Munich winger has been in sparkling form at Euro 2008, scoring the opener and setting up the other two goals in Germany's 3-2 win over Portugal in the quarter-finals.
Schweinsteiger is approaching the final year of his contract at German champions Bayern.
Despite new boss Jurgen Klinsmann saying he wants Schweinsteiger to stay, the 23-year-old said the Premier League appeals to him.
"I may stay with Bayern and the coach has promised to be supportive of whatever decision I make," Schweinsteger is quoted as saying in the Glasgow Sunday Mail.
"England does have a good appeal as it is one of the world's best leagues.
"I've always wanted to play there and we'll see if it happens this year."
The midfielder, who has 54 international caps, is expected to start in Germany's semi-final clash with Turkey on Wednesday.
Schweinsteiger was sent-off in Germany's shock defeat to Croatia in the group stages, before returning against Portugal.
He has been at Bayern since 2002, and has made over 150 appearances for the Germany giants.
He is currently valued at around £5 million and has been linked with a move to Arsenal.
