Gerrard adds to England's growing injury list

Steven Gerrard is out of England's friendly with Germany on Wednesday with a leg injury.

The midfielder tore a leg muscle in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers yesterday at the Reebok Stadium.

Gerrard will be out of action for seven to ten days, and is a doubt for the Reds' match with Fulham on Saturday and the Champions League clash with Marseille.

But the 28-year-old has pulled out of the squad for Wednesday's clash with Germany in Berlin.

Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton said: "Steven picked up an injury in yesterday's game at Bolton.

"A scan this morning has confirmed a tear in the adductor magnus muscle in his right leg, and he is expected to be out between seven to ten days."

England boss Fabio Capello is already without several stars including Rio Ferdinand, Emile Heskey and Wayne Rooney, while captain John Terry is a doubt.

Chelsea duo Ashley and Joe Cole are also missing with hamstring injuries and Manchester United defender Wes Brown is out with an ankle problem.

With the spate of injuries, Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne and Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor could be in line for their debuts.

Capello said he will take a careful look at his young players at the Olympic Stadium.

"Our opponents Germany are always a very strong team, and when they play at home even more so," the Italian said.

"Everyone has told me that it is not a friendly game against Germany, but I think this will be a friendly game. We will do some experiments and after this game I will know better some different players."
