Giggs puts faith in Ferguson in response to United critics
22/04/2008
Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has said he is not worried about being singled out for criticism from fans as long as he keeps getting picked.
A small section of the club's supporters turned on the former Welsh international as a result of his below-par performances in recent Premier League draws with Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, which threatened to derail United's title push.
However, the 34-year-old is apparently still in the plans of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who continues to pick Giggs ahead of big-money summer signings such as Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson.
Giggs has revealed that criticism from the stands is part and parcel of playing for a club of the stature of Manchester United, and he will not let it affect his game.
"Getting criticism is part of being a Manchester United player. It doesn't bother me," he told the Sun newspaper.
"I don't know why I'm singled out. Maybe it's because I've been around so long.
"But the one person I have to impress is the manager - and while he is picking me, I know I am good enough."
United have three games left this season in which to complete their task of retaining the domestic league title, starting with this weekend's crunch clash against second-placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Before that daunting trip, however, is another tricky away fixture on Wednesday as the Red Devils travel to the Nou Camp to face Spanish giants Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
