Goalkeeper charged over death crash
16/06/2008
Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick appeared in court today where he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
The professional footballer was arrested in the early hours of June 7th following a car crash on the M6 in which two young boys died.
The mother of the two boys killed in a motorway crash was also in court for the hearing.
Amanda Peak remained composed during Mr McCormick's preliminary hearing over the deaths of Arron, ten, and his brother Ben, eight.
Mr McCormick, 24, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol. But a charge of driving without insurance has been withdrawn, Stoke-on-Trent crown court heard.
Prosecutor Robert Price said it appeared to be an "administrative error" that McCormick's insurance details were not on a national database.
He explained that the defendant had produced a document which was accepted as genuine.
Mr McCormick, wearing a dark suit, spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the proceedings.
He was bailed to appear at the same court on September 8th, when he will enter a plea.
