Gold for China's gymnasts

China has won the women's team gymnastic Olympic gold, pushing the USA into second and Romania into third.

The victory comes a day after their male counterparts won the equivalent competition in front of an adoring home crowd.

The Chinese team finished on 188.9 points, 2.375 ahead of the USA, while Romania took bronze with 181.525.

Coach Lu Shanzhen said a new gymnastic power had risen in the last two days after the women's team failed to win a single medal in Athens.

"This is the most important gold medal - the great atmosphere here in China allowed everyone to be filled with enthusiasm and good morale," Lu said.
