Gudjohnsen 'could return to Premier League'
06/06/2008
Former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen is considering a move back to the Premier League this summer, according to his father and agent.
Arnor Gudjohnsen claims at least one English club, thought to be Newcastle United, are interested in sealing a return to the UK for the Icelander, who was a crowd favourite during his six seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Gudjohnsen also played for Bolton Wanderers before signing for the Blues in 2000 and is well-suited to the style of play in England.
He has found it difficult to settle into Spanish football, frequently being used as a substitute or as a midfielder by former Barca coach Frank Rijkaard.
Gudjohnsen Snr told the BBC: "One Premier League club has shown a lot of interest in Eidur.
"He would certainly be interested in a move back to England, but he is not going to rush into making a decision."
He added: "Eidur and his family are settled in Barcelona and he has two years left on his contract, but his chances were limited last season."
Gudjohnsen would likely be sold for a fee below the £8 million he commanded when moving to Catalunya and, at 29 years of age, could represent a bargain buy.
