Gunners deserved win, Wenger claims
01/12/2008
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said his side showed their title credentials in beating Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
A Robin van Persie brace sealed a vital and surprising win for the Gunners in west London, which propels them back into the title hunt according to the Frenchman.
"It was a vital win for us," he admitted.
"To lose would have put us 13 points back, and that is too much."
And seemingly in response to past criticisms from former captain William Gallas, Wenger said his side showed "a lot of character and fight" to come back from going 1-0 down.
"We scored an own goal, and were having a bad time in the Premier League as a whole," he continued.
"But we came back and won convincingly.
"We were always dangerous in the second half and deserved to win the game."
