Gunners "never under threat", says Wenger
28/08/2008
Manager Arsene Wenger has claimed Arsenal were "never really under threat" in their 4-0 Champions League qualifying victory over FC Twente last night.
The Gunners sealed a comfortable 6-0 aggregate win with goals from Samir Nasri, William Gallas, Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner at the Emirates Stadium.
And afterwards Wenger said the result was important for the team to bounce back following their disappointing performance in last Saturday's 1-0 reverse against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
"I felt the whole team was sharper and physically we were much better than on Saturday afternoon," he told the club's official website.
"Maybe that is why we made it easier.
"It was a big game for us and I felt we were well organised, disciplined, focused and basically never really under threat from FC Twente.
"What was most important was not to make mistakes, be patient and score our goals."
Wenger also said he was pleased with the performance of young winger Walcott, who scored arguably Arsenal's best goal on the night with a Thierry Henry-esque finish into the far corner for the third.
"He can be decisive in any game against anybody if the team has a good collective display and if you can get him involved," the manager explained.
"He has improved his first touch, his link play, and that was a vital stage for him. Then without losing his one-against-one ability, he has worked on his control on the move and looks now to have found the balance between individual play and team play."
He added: "Theo is a good finisher. What he did today is really the brand of a good finisher and you cannot teach that. He has that naturally."
