Histon dump Leeds out of FA Cup
30/11/2008
Leeds United have been dumped out of the FA Cup by minnows Histon at the Glass World Stadium.
The Blue Square Premier side caused one of the biggest upsets in the competition's history after a first-half goal from Matthew Langston.
Histon's reward for beating Leeds is a home tie against Swansea City in the third round in the first weekend in January.
In torrential rain, Leeds dominated the first half with Luciano Becchio blazing over from close range while defender Patrick Ada nearly scored an own goal with a scuffed clearance that went inches wide.
But Histon, who lie second in the Blue Square Premier, stunned the League One side by grabbing the lead six minutes before half-time after Langston headed in Gareth Gwillim's pinpoint cross.
Leeds bombarded the home side's goal in the second half with Lubomir Michalik rattling the post with a low shot, before having a header cleared off the line by Jack Midson late on.
But Steve Fallon's side clung on to seal the biggest win in their history and send 1972 FA Cup winners Leeds out at the second round stage.
Histon were playing in the Southern League when Leeds reached the Champions League semi-final in 2001.
