Hotshot striker Villa admits interest in Anfield move
15/06/2008
Spain striker David Villa has hinted he is interested in a switch to Liverpool this summer.
The Valencia goal-machine netted an injury-time winner yesterday in Spain's 2-1 win over Sweden, his fourth goal at Euro 2008.
Villa, who is valued at around £30 million, has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Chelsea.
The 26-year-old revealed he would be tempted by a switch to Anfield to link up with compatriot Fernando Torres at club level.
"Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with a lot of attraction," Villa told the News of the World.
"Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I also have a lot of friends there.
"When [Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez] was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia but I couldn't arrive until the year after he left there."
Villa looks set to leave Valencia this summer with the club missing out on a European place after finishing tenth in La Liga last season.
The striker has scored an impressive 58 goals in 101 games for Valencia, and his form at Euro 2008 will increase the number of suitors.
With Spain booking their place in the quarter-finals, Villa may be rested for their final Group D game against holders Greece on Wednesday.
