Chelsea 'reject second Inter offer for Lampard'
09/07/2008
Inter Milan have had their 10 million (£7.95 million) bid for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard rejected, according to reports.
The Serie A champions saw their first official approach for the 30-year-old rejected on Tuesday morning, and tabled an increased offer yesterday evening.
But the Blues have shown their resolve to hold onto England international Lampard by turning down the bid, despite the fact his contract expires next summer.
The Stamford Bridge outfit confirmed an initial approach had been made by Inter yesterday.
But the statement added: "Chelsea FC... will not enter into any discussions regarding the transfer of Frank Lampard."
New manager Luiz Felipe Scolari hosted his first press conference as Chelsea boss yesterday afternoon and stated that after speaking to Lampard he believes that the England midfielder would be at Stamford Bridge for several years to come.
However, Lampard's agent Steve Kutner then responded to Scolari's remarks with his own statement, saying the situation "remains completely unresolved".
"I'd just like to make the situation clear," he said.
"Felipe had a very amicable chat with Frank, who told him he always envisaged ending his playing career at Chelsea Football Club.
"He also told him that unfortunately terms for a new contract cannot be agreed with the board, despite discussions having been ongoing for over two years.
"This, coupled with everything that happened to Frank at the end of last season, means his position remains completely unresolved."
