Inter president Moratti slams Mourinho rumours
22/04/2008
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has flatly denied the ongoing rumour that Jose Mourinho will take over as the club's new manager this summer.
The former Chelsea boss has been out of work since quitting Stamford Bridge last September, and he has frequently stated his desire to take a high-profile job in either Spain or Italy.
Current Inter coach Roberto Mancini announced earlier this year - in the immediate aftermath of his team's Champions League elimination at the hands of Liverpool - that he would step down at the end of the season.
And this, in turn, led to media pundits across the world putting two and two together and touting Mourinho to take over at the Serie A champions.
Mancini later retracted his statement of resignation, saying he would stay on at the San Siro.
But this has not quietened the rumour mills and Moratti has now spoken out against the reports that the Portuguese coach will replace Mancini later this year.
"Who knows how many times I have heard this recently," he told Italian television network Telelombardia.
"It's not true and there's no further need to deny it."
Mourinho is renowned as one of the world's top man-managers and is known to be keen to return to football after nearly nine months away from the game.
