Keane questions Sunderland future again

29/11/2008

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has fuelled speculation surrounding his future by admitting he is unsure whether he is the right man to lead the club.

A disastrous 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Bolton today has led to Sunderland dropping into the relegation zone and despite individual mistakes from his players costing two of the goals, an under-fire Keane took the blame for the defeat.

His side have lost five of their last six Premier League games and with Keane having yet to sign a new contact at the Stadium of Light, the former Manchester United skipper could be on the verge of leaving the club.

"I ask myself every day if I'm the right man for Sunderland," said Keane. "I asked myself this morning, and I said I was. Sunday morning, if the answer's no, we'll have to look at it.

"I have to be honest in my assessment. It's not about what's best for Roy Keane. It's Sunderland football club. I might wake up on Monday morning and think I'm the right man. On Tuesday it might be different.

"I'm the manager of this football club and ultimately I'm responsible and I've never shied away from that. That's part of being a manager and that's why I take full responsibility for today and the run we're on and everything else," added Keane.

Keane became the manager of the Black Cats in the summer of 2006 and had a remarkable first season, winning the Championship and gaining promotio to the Premier League. He did well to keep the club in the top division last season.

The 37-year-old's contract at the club runs out in the summer and he said yesterday that he may decide to leave the club then. ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18903881-ADNFCR
