Kenyon "confident" over Robinho
27/08/2008
Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has said he is "ever confident" the club will complete the signing of Real Madrid striker Robinho before Monday's transfer deadline.
The Blues have been chasing the Brazilian's signature since Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed as the new manager at Stamford Bridge earlier this summer.
And the west Londoners received a boost last week when Robinho revealed to the Spanish press that he wanted to leave the Bernabeu for the Premier League runners-up.
Speaking at the launch of Chelsea's corporate social responsibility report at the club's Cobham training ground today, Kenyon reaffirmed his optimism that a deal can be reached in the next couple of days.
"We are ever confident that [the deal for Robinho] will get done but we have always said it will go to the wire," he told the club's official website.
"We will keep moving it on and we hope that he will be joining us here at Chelsea.
"There were two players Luiz Felipe Scolari identified - one was Deco and one was Robinho and we have already seen the impact Deco has already made on the Premier League.
"I think the squad is strong and capable of competing in all competitions without Robinho.
"But with him, it is an added dimension."
