Kewell signs on at Galatasaray
04/07/2008
Galatasaray have announced the signing of Harry Kewell on a free transfer after the midfielder left Liverpool.
The Reds opted against offering the injury-prone winger a new deal when his contract ran out at the end of last season.
Australia international Kewell, 29, had also been linked with a move to Portsmouth or Serie A outfit Roma.
But according to Galatasaray's official website Kewell has signed a three-year deal with the Istanbul giants.
Kewell has spent the last five seasons at Anfield, but injuries limited him to just 138 appearances.
A message on the official Liverpool website said: "Injuries prevented Kewell making the impact he would have liked on Merseyside."
In his only previous appearance against Galatasaray, playing for Leeds in the 2000 Uefa Cup semi-final second leg, the midfielder was sent off.
He was in Liverpool's Champions League-winning XI in Istanbul in 2005, although he came off injured during the first half.
