Late goal gives Dundee United Uefa Cup boost
26/04/2008
A late equaliser from Lee Wilkie secured a 2-2 draw for Dundee United away at Motherwell as his side moved a step closer to securing third place in the SPL and Uefa Cup football next season.
The home side took the lead after 16 minutes thanks to a Chris Porter header, though this was cancelled out by a Stephen Craigan own-goal at the other end just minutes later.
Porter got his second goal of the game after the re-start before Wilkie took advantage of some slack defending by the hosts to grab a vital late point.
At Aberdeen, the Dons recovered from being a goal down against Hibernian to take all the points and help them banish memories of their Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Queen of the South.
Hibs took the lead through Lee Miller, who converted a penalty awarded for a foul on him inside box, though Dean Shields equalised in the 54th minute before Darren Mackie hit a close range winner.
St Mirren also beat Falkirk 1-0 in a dull affair, the only highlight of which was a stunning volleyed goal by Andy Dorman in the final ten minutes, while at Tynecastle, Hearts beat Inverness CT by the same scoreline thanks to a Gary Glen goal.
Elsewhere, Kilmarnock and Gretna shared the points with a 1-1 draw, with Craig Barr bringing the hosts level after David Fernandez had broken the deadlock.
