Liverpool stadium gets planning permission

06/05/2008

The Liverpool City Council Planning Committee has unanimously approved the revised designs of the new Liverpool stadium in Stanley Park.

Full planning permission has been granted for a new 60,000 seat stadium including a Community Partnership Centre, a shop and a new museum.

The plans also include permission for Anfield Plaza – a development to be built on the site of the existing stadium - but these are subject to further planning applications in the future, a statement revealed.

According to Liverpool the new plans will make better use of the space as the stadium area is actually 25 per cent smaller than the previous design, thereby creating space around the ground.

Included in the plans was a multi-use games area and tennis court complex which will now be placed on a roof above part of the car park on the North side of the stadium.

Restoration of Stanley Park and Isla Gladstone Conservatory are underway and expected to be complete by the end of this winter.

Construction on the new ground will start as soon as possible with the stadium expected to be ready in time for the beginning of the 2011/2012 season.

The new plans are the third draft of the stadium after councillors approved plans about four years ago.

Original plans had been met with objections as some believe the development is too big for the area.
