Low: A bad day at the office

20/11/2008

Germany coach Joachim Low blamed "a bad day at the office" for his side's poor display in their 2-1 defeat by England in an international friendly in Berlin.

Goals from centre backs Matthew Upson and John Terry cancelled out Patrick Helmes' fortuitous equaliser.

And afterwards Low said he thought England deserved their victory.

"The English were better over the entire game," he stated.

"We had a bad day at the office and deserved the defeat.

"Only in the second half did we find our feet, in what was our best phase of the game, but we had big problems in terms of organisation and structure.

"You could see England getting stronger and we didn't take our chances when we had them."

Low, whose side beat England under former coach Steve McLaren 2-1 in a friendly at Wembley last year, added his belief that the Three Lions have measurably improved since Italian coach Fabio Capello took over.

Capello was appointed following McClaren's failure to guide the national team to the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland in the summer.

And Low said: "England have got a lot better since the European Championships.

"We didn't have the ability to beat a team like them on the night."ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18886187-ADNFCR
