Magpies submit Beye claim
21/10/2008
Newcastle United have submitted a claim for the wrongful dismissal of defender Habib Beye against Manchester City last night.
The Senegalese international was dismissed in the 14th minute of the 2-2 draw at St James' Park for "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity".
He was adjudged by referee Rob Styles to have brought down City forward Robinho in the penalty area - which allowed the Brazilian to give his side the lead from 12 yards.
A statement from the Football Association confirmed that it has received the appeal, adding: "A regulatory commission will consider the claim on Thursday October 23rd."
After the match Magpies manager Joe Kinnear revealed he had spoken to Styles and claimed the official had agreed to review his decision using video evidence.
Replays appeared to show Beye made contact with the ball in executing the tackle, although this does not necessarily mean any appeal will be successful.
If Beye's dismissal is upheld he will incur a one-match suspension, meaning he will miss the Tyne-Wear derby this weekend against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
