Manchester United agree fee for Bluebirds' Ramsey

03/06/2008

Manchester United have agreed a fee with Cardiff City for their 17-year-old left midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The teenager, who was reportedly a target for a number of Premier League clubs including United's bitter rivals Liverpool, will complete his switch to Old Trafford subject to passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

It is thought that, as well as the substantial lure of the Red Devils' prestige, the young Welshman was tempted by the opportunity to be an understudy to one of his idols, Ryan Giggs.

Ramsey played in Championship side Cardiff's impressive run to the final of the FA Cup this season, which saw them knock out Premier League club Middlesbrough in the quarterfinals before losing to Portsmouth at Wembley.

He will follow countryman Gareth Bale into the top flight after the left-sided starlet signed for Tottenham Hotspur last summer from Southampton.

It is not known if United have paid more than the reported £5 million initial fee Spurs handed over for their acquisition 12 months ago.

However, Cardiff had previously confirmed that three "top Premier League teams" had made bids for the player, with two given permission to speak to Ramsey.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18622244-ADNFCR
