Maradona: A great experience
20/11/2008
Diego Maradona has described taking charge of Argentina for the first time in their 1-0 friendly win in Scotland as "a great experience".
The 48-year-old watched his side put in a patchy performance at Hampden Park, having started quickly and taken the lead in the eighth minute through Maxi Rodriguez.
Scotland had some half-chances but failed to capitalise, despite the South Americans fading slightly in the later stages.
However, afterwards Maradona revealed that the performance had "made [him] proud".
"The players wore the shirt with pride," he said.
"It was a great experience and I was relaxed throughout. It was a clear victory for us."
Maradona described the first 25 minutes as "brilliant" but conceded that the performance could have been better if they had managed to put the ball in the net again to enable the team to relax more.
"We couldn't convert our chances," he continued.
"We gave the ball away too easily but even then Scotland couldn't capitalise so we deserved our victory."
