McGregor signs new five-year Rangers deal
27/06/2008
Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has signed a new five-year contract which will keep him at Ibrox until at least the end of the 2012/13 season.
The Scot, who made his international debut in former boss Alex McLeish's first game as manager, says he has been negotiating with the club for a number of weeks.
And he admitted he is "delighted with the five-year deal", which ends speculation over the 26-year-old's future.
"I met the chairman a couple of weeks ago and I think he realised I always wanted to stay at the club, especially after breaking in to the team," McGregor said.
"It's good to get it settled and hopefully now I can just get on with pre-season."
Rangers manager Walter Smith said he is pleased to keep hold of McGregor as competition for Neil Alexander, who played as the starting number one while McGregor was out of action through injury towards the end of last season.
Smith said: "We're delighted to secure Allan on a long-term contract. He had a great season last year before his injury.
"He's come through the youth ranks at the club and is now an established first-team star and that's testament to his hard work and ability."
