Modric suffers torn groin muscle
19/11/2008
Luka Modric has been ruled out for up to two weeks after suffering a partially torn groin muscle in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 defeat to Fulham last week.
The Croatian international, a club record £16.5 million signing from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer, came off at half-time of Spurs' defeat at Craven Cottage - their first under new manager Harry Redknapp.
And after being prevented from joining up with his Croatia team-mates during the international window this week it has now been confirmed that Modric is unlikely to return to first-team action before early December.
"An MRI scan has revealed that Luka Modric has suffered a partially torn groin muscle," said a statement from the club.
"The Croatia international was forced off with the injury at half-time in Saturday's match with Fulham and is expected to be sidelined for up to two weeks."
The injury means Modric will miss Tottenham's home Premier League fixtures against Blackburn Rovers and Everton in November, as well as next week's Uefa Cup group game against Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.
His first game back after the layoff could be the Carling Cup quarter-final match against Watford at Vicarage Road on December 3rd.
