Mourinho unveiled as Inter coach
03/06/2008
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been unveiled as the new manager of Inter Milan.
The Portuguese, who quit Stamford Bridge last September after an ongoing feud with the club's hierarchy, has given his first news conference since joining the Italian side.
And he was typically outspoken when answering questions on his hopes for the future, for both himself and the club.
"I am Mourinho - I am a great coach, but I don't want to be special," he told the gathered press.
"I am sure you [the media] are in for an entertaining time."
Mourinho had been linked with the Inter post since former boss Roberto Mancini announced he intended to leave this summer.
Mancini made the announcement following his side's Champions League exit at the hands of Liverpool in February but later reneged on his statement and indicated he wished to stay.
However, the club's management decided after the end of the Serie A season, which saw Inter pick up a third successive Scudetto title, that Mancini would not continue and terminated his contract.
That opened the door for former Porto coach Mourinho, who has been out of work for nine months, to begin negotiating with Inter over the possibility of working in Italy - where he had previously stated he would like to try his hand at club management.
In a statement on the club's official website yesterday, Inter said: "FC Inter Milan have announced the arrival of Jose Mourinho.
"The Portuguese manager has agreed a three-year contract."
The club also confirmed he will be assisted by long-time coaches Rui Farias, Silvino and Andrei Villas Boas, who were all with him at Chelsea and FC Porto before that.
Current Inter youth team coach Giuseppe Baresi will step up to become Mourinho's number two, in a similar way that Steve Clarke assisted the 45-year-old after he arrived in west London.
"We thank Roberto Mancini and his coaching staff for four successful seasons guiding the squad," Inter added.
"Everyone at Inter would like to wish Jose Mourinho and his assistants good luck in their new jobs."
